Loud Shirt Day 2024

Dr Julia Sarant from Australia conducted a review about how using spoken language, or combining spoken language with sign language, affects outcomes for children with hearing loss. This morning she presented the results to a variety of people at The Hearing House, including parents and speech therapists, with the help of our habilitation team leader Alexandra Crosbie.

Good news! The construction of the new Hearing House building is underway.

The new building will be a wonderful development for all our families – with so many benefits. It will cover 1,000sqm and feature therapy rooms, audiology booths, a sensory integration room and a home education suite. It will be modern and convenient, and best of all, all our services will be under one roof again.

The construction is expected to take 12 months and began this week. It starts with the demolition of the two houses beside the original Hearing House building.

We have gratefully received $5.6 million of donations and grants from individuals, trusts and companies towards the project. We need to raise a further $2 million to close the gap. We will be working hard over the next two years to raise the final amount to cover the total cost of the project.

To make a donation to our capital project please contact Fundraising and Communications Manager Melanie Louden – 09 579 2333, or melanie@hearinghouse.co.nz

This clip shows the initial programming of Ryan’s ‪cochlear implant devices, and his mother and audiologists introducing him to directional sound. You will see that once Ryan learns where the sound is coming from he begins to turn to the sound himself. Then once the implants are turned on Ryan has a great time making his own sounds and noises with the toys and instruments.
